Recorded live on April 21, 2016 in Ernst C. Stiefel Hall of The New School.

I wrote these songs while studying at Mannes during its first year in Greenwich Village—a pivotal time in my life when I found myself drawn from the academic, classical world I was immersed in back to improvisation and chance. Surrounded by the goings-on of Union Square and the intoxicating culture of experimentation and self-expression that is The New School, I grew to adore the unescapable idealogical fray and found a liberation in the chaos. The only way to plan for chaos is with improvisation. You can know the parameters of a system and exist in it, but to do more, to navigate and explore, you must take risks and be fluid. These songs live neither as through-composed classical pieces nor as jazz lead-sheets, but rather somewhere uncertain on a spectrum in between.
